The Glass Slip-Up

The Glass Slip-Up by Louis Cooper presented an interesting take on the 'Cinderella' story. It seems to have gone the route that many have wondered but feared to portray; the 'what happened next' story arc that are normally left out of romances and fairytale stories. This takes place after the prince and Cinderella, or Rell, got married and the prince finds himself quite disgusted by her uncivilized persona leading him to force the fairy godmother to somehow fix this situation and separate the two.

Personally, I enjoy this 'after fantasy' view of Cinderella. All too often we see our favorite fairy tale characters just marry each other and fall in love on a whim, unrealistically. Maybe it's just my cold, damaged adult mind that desires to find corruption in something that seemed beautiful and whimsy at the time or just my need to say "Now you see? Darling things like that could not happen in real life" but I enjoyed this reversal of the story mood and message.
Something else that I found interesting was how the world took the fairy godmother. She seemed more like a woman with a peculiar job rather than this jarring magical entity that only wants to help. The prince did not appear as surprised at the existence of magical entities but instead took it as a little more than mundane.
